Sudden Causes of Hair Loss

For many people that suffer from hair loss, it occurs gradually over a long period of time. You start to notice a few hairs falling out, and soon more and more hairs fall out and over the period of a few years, you have lost a lot of hair that may or may not ever come back. But there are also sudden cause of hair loss that can occur at any time, and these can be extremely scary for anyone that has to go through them.

What Are the Sudden Causes of Hair Loss?

There are generally two sudden causes of hair loss. One of them is called Anagen Effluvium. It is when your hair falls out due to some type of external phenomenon, like radiation or chemicals. For example, when you undergo chemotherapy, the radiation can cause your hair to fall out. In addition, certain chemicals that you may come into contact with can cause your hair to fall out. All of them fall under this scenario.

The other is called Alopecia Areata. It is when you have a "sudden immune disorder" that causes your body to expel your hair as though it is a virus. The root cause of this is generally unknown, but it causes all of your hair to fall out at once. This can be extremely frightening, but despite it being cause by an immune disorder, in almost every case the hair ends up growing back on its own.

Longer Term Hair Loss

Most hair loss occurs over the longer term, even if it appears that it occurred "suddenly." There are very few sudden causes of hair loss that are not due to some type of strange one time disorder or constant contact with radiation or chemicals. Hair loss, however, can appear sudden if you did not see it occurring and suddenly notice that you have balding spots on your head. That type of hair loss is actually slower, and is caused by an overactive hormone known as DHT.

Though DHT does not fix itself like Anagen Effluvium or Alopecia Areata, it can be treated using a supplement like Procerin. Procerin has the ability to reduce the amount of DHT in your body, which allows your hair to receive nutrients and start to grow back (or at least stop your hair loss from getting worse). Most sudden causes will solve the problems on their own, but the not sudden causes require Procerin.
